Best Mosquito Repellents

Puerto Ricans have been doing it for years, but new threats like the Chikungunya or Zika virus make mosquito control even more important. If you already live in Puerto Rico, or are planning on traveling or moving to Puerto Rico, it’s important to consider purchasing mosquito control products to keep yourself and your family safe from disease and to make your life more comfortable.

Mosquito Protection Basics

  • Wear loose clothing that covers your arms and legs, don’t wear black.
  • Mosquitoes are more prevalent near standing water, after rain, and near overgrown brush.
  • Clear away any items that hold pooling water from around your home.

Plants to repel mosquitos

  • Lemon eucalyptus oil. Used since the 1940s, lemon eucalyptus oil is one of the more well-known natural repellents.
  • Lavender. Crushed lavender flowers produce a fragrance and oil that can repel mosquitoes.
  • Cinnamon oil.
  • Thyme oil.
  • Citronella.
  • Tea tree oil.
  • Geraniol.
  • Neem oil.

In my case I have eucalyptus trees in my yard and also citronella, and they keep bugs away too! I’ve had more success with citronella plants rather than candles, oils are also good if you have a diffuser mix it with water and they should stay away.
